Muscle Building Protein Snack

This is one of my favourite protein bar recipe. The dates and figs bring loads of fiber that helps releasing slowly all the natural sugars, the tiny fig seeds bring a crunchy texture and the orange skin flavour beautifully marries the raw cacao powder acceleration pedal to a strong, powerful taste. The final result is a complete muscle building protein pack for sportspeople of any age.

Ingredients

  • 300 g Medjool pitted dates
  • 50 g of sun dried figs
  • 110 g of oats
  • 2 table spoons of hemp seeds
  • 60 g almonds
  • 60 g walnuts
  • 90 g cacao powder
  • 3-4 organic (un-waxed) orange dried skin stripes (ground)
  • 1/4 of vanilla pod

Instructions

For this recipe you will need a food processor with a strong engine to whiz the ingredients. Start blending smooth the dates and the dried figs

Feel free to add some water at any stage when you see that the mix becomes hard or turns in the shape of a tennis ball. You need to have a thick paste

Remove the paste and set aside

Put the oats, hemp seeds, the almonds and walnuts into the food processor and chop them to fine crumbs

Add the date and fig paste step by step checking if it needs a bit of water to maintain the mix workable

Add the hemp seeds, the cocoa powder, the scraped vanilla seeds, the ground dried orange skin and blend well

Place the mix into silicon/non sticky tray spreading it nicely with your fingers

You can cut the dough into bars or with the help of a jar you can create round shapes

On the top you could sprinkle some roughly broken almond/walnut

Place and store your energy bars/disks/cones in the fridge
